Jacksonville Jaguars vs Cincinnati Bengals: studs
By Luke Sims
Chris Smith, defensive end, Jacksonville Jaguars
Another intriguing depth player, Chris Smith has been in the Jaguars’ rotation since 2014. He’s not a perfect pass rusher and doesn’t set the edge particularly well on running downs, but there is potential in him.
The Jags need pass rush help and they need disruptive players on the defensive line. Smith showed he could be that against the Bengals.
Smith made a home in the backfield, finishing the night with two tackles for a loss and a sack. That’s the kind of attention that young players with potential need just before the season to get more reps.
Hayes Pullard, linebacker, Jacksonville Jaguars
While the touchdown Hayes Pullard caught while lining up as a fullback was negated (because he didn’t report in), the touchdown he had while returning an interception was well earned and put the Jags over the top in the game.
Pullard was in on three tackles and had the interception for a touchdown in the game. He received plenty of attention for his efforts.
The former seventh round pick that was claimed off the Cleveland Browns practice squad in 2015 needs a few lucky instances like he had tonight if he wants to stick on a roster. He may have done enough to stick around.
