The Jacksonville Jaguars decided it was time for a change when they fired offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch on Tuesday, and the rumors have been flying about possible replacements. Marc Trestman was one of the first names that popped up due to a budding relationship between the former Bears head coach and Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, but another name that was thrown around was 49ers head coach Greg Roman.
The San Francisco 49ers just parted ways with head coach Jim Harbaugh and, while no official move has been made yet, it’s reasonable to expect his staff to look elsewhere for jobs.
Greg Roman was one of the favorites for the Jacksonville head coaching gig 2 years ago because of his relationship with newly hired general manager David Caldwell, but he never got a chance to interview for the job. The 49ers went deep into the playoffs and Caldwell decided to hire Gus Bradley on the spot after his interview.
While it’s fair to make the connection between Roman and Caldwell, the Jaguars have made it clear that Gus Bradley is going to have the final say in coaching staff decisions. Bradley made the decision to let Fisch go, and he’ll be the final word on who his replacement is. Still, we can’t rule out someone like Greg Roman, who was considered one of the brightest offensive minds in the game only a year ago.
