QB Vince Young has reportedly worked out with the Buffalo Bills. Being the good citizen that I am, it is my duty to tell the Bills to watch out!

As a Jaguars fan I had the pleasure of watching Vince Young fail for five seasons in Tennessee. He never amassed more than nine victories in a season, he had some psychological problems that made one wonder what was going on in Tennessee, and he appeared to think he was God’s gift to football (no offense to him, he was pretty good back in Texas!).

I thought the Eagles would do him some good last season. Then came the now infamous “Dream Team” label placed on the free spending Eagles by none other than Young himself – the backup quarterback.

In the three games he did start, young threw nine picks, four touchdowns, averaged 7.6 yards per attempt, and had a 1-2 win-loss record. I’m not saying he was terrible, but he definitely wasn’t the man to lead the team when they needed someone to replace Michael Vick. I bet it made Andy Reid miss Kevin Kolb… Young isn’t terrible, but he has gaffs that make our current Vice President look perfectly eloquent. Young isn’t very effective, still has a Texas sized ego, and brings more of a headache than relief. It’s a good thing for the AFC South that he’s out of there.

I don’t mean this as a thrashing of Vince Young, I mean this more as a public service announcement for the Buffalo Bills. I know I’m not in charge of personnel up in New York, but if I was I would have a number of questions before letting Young backup Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Since the formation of the AFC South in 2002, the Jaguars have never won the division. Yet year after year we hear from our dear Jack Del Rio, GM Gene Smith, and Owner Wayne Weaver tell us we’re going to win the division. While I’m sure they’re scheming each and every week trying to figure out how to go about it, we’ll break it down team by team here on What’s Next at Black and Teal. Each week for he next three weeks we’ll analyze how to dismantle our division foes until only the Jaguars are the only ones left standing.

This week: The Tennessee Titans!

Cruising around the web today, I noticed a reader commented with the term “franchise quarterback”. This is a term that has often bothered me. When should it really be used? How does one actually define the franchise quarterback? Most use it as a description for a quarterback that is above-average and participates in multiple playoff games. Granted, that’s not what they’re thinking when they say that, but it is the end result and by these regards, I would label current Jaguars QB David Garrard a “franchise quarterback”. Is he deserving?

Let’s define it.
