New Jaguars and Dolphins uniforms? We don’t know yet, but these images from Twitter user @C_Mitchko are the closest to a solid leak that have seen yet.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to get new uniforms for 2013.  The re-design is to be a complete overhaul to go with the Jaguars’ new logo.  There is now a photo leaked to the internet from the instagram of “sneaker_pimp_simmons” that shows the Jaguars’ and Dolphins’ new uniforms.

We really have no way of knowing if they are legitimate or not because the Dolphins aren’t set to unveil their uniforms or new logo until April 18th.  When the uniforms are finally unveiled, we will know for sure.  For now, I think this looks more like a speculative shot of what the uniforms look like.  To be honest, I quite like it.

Of note is the insert of gold for the Jags.  A little gold will vastly improve on the all black uniforms the team introduced last season.  The “Jags” shield logo is backward on the leaked photo but would be a delight to see incorporated on the official release.

The Dolphins’ new logo and uniform (if legitimate) aren’t much of an upgrade over what they currently have.  It’s nice that they are being updated, but to me it looks like an average lateral move to spark interest but not something that is innovative or marks a departure from the current.

The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled their new logo yesterday, and it’s an abrupt departure from the Jags’ past while still being similar enough to ensure that the new beginning has not lost its past.  We’ve all known the Jags are going to redesign their uniforms for the 2013 season for a while, so what can we learn about the new unis from the new logo?

Black

• The Jaguars went black in 2012 and it looked pretty good.  While there is some discussion about wearing black in the late summer and early fall months down in Florida, modern uniform technology probably won’t fail NFL athletes and the departure from the teal looked smoother and more bold.  So can we expect straight black in the uniform change?  I don’t think we will.  Black figures to be a predominant color, according to owner Shahid Khan, so expect it to be all over, but don’t be shocked to see a bit more accent colors than the team had in 2012.

Gold

• The rumor is that the Jags are going to put more gold into the re-design, and that’s probably a good thing.  The new logo has more gold to it than the old one, so it seems to confirm that gold will play a more predominant role on the uniforms.

Teal

• But what about the teal?  The Jags kept teal as a color for the new logo, and even if its only on the helmet you can rest assured that the team is not abandoning its current tertiary color.  I imagine there will be some “tasteful” teal thrown on the uniform somewhere.  The teal was actually expanded on the logo to cover the nose and eyes as well as remaining on the tongue.  It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Jags put some more back onto the jerseys after eliminating it from everywhere with the 2012 shift.

Jaguar Print

• Ever since Nike was handed the keys to NFL uniforms there has been speculation about teams’ new looks.  A lot of fan concepts for the Jags feature jaguar print either down the side, on the helmet, or in some pretty random spot.  The new logo has more defined jaguar spots on the head, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see it incorporated into the uniform at least a little bit.  While I’m inclined to think there likely won’t be any – it just wouldn’t look good and I doubt the television networks would be too thrilled – Nike has done some really wacky stuff in the past, so why not?

We’ll see as the Jags get set to reveal the new uniforms closer to April.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been due new uniforms from Nike as one of the first teams to be upgraded.  This season they transitioned to all black uniforms that look pretty good, but they have been waiting for a full revamp like the Seattle Seahawks got for the 2012 season.  It was rumored that the Jaguars were going black for 2013, but now it sounds like they’re going to be getting a bit of gold as well.

Yes, Pete, we do care.  Well at least those of us who love the Jaguars.

The Jags will be getting a revamp with a new logo and color scheme, but they won’t be alone.  The Miami Dolphins are also getting an upgrade.  The state of Florida will be among the best dressed in the NFL for the 2013 season…at least if some of these designs aren’t used.
