The Jacksonville Jaguars made two roster moves on March 13th, the second day of open free agency. The team cut wide receiver Laurent Robinson and signed linebacker Geno Hayes to a two year deal. How do you, the fans, view the team’s moves from Wednesday?

Personally, I like the move to sign Hayes, especially since he provides experienced depth at a position that severely lacked it in 2012. I would grade it as a “B” level signing because it addresses a need though does not give the team a guaranteed starter. It would seem that Hayes could make the jump back up to NFL starter though.

The Robinson cutting was a surprise to most of us. It seemed that Robinson would provide a strong third receiving option during the 2013 season, but, after passing his physical, he was cut. This leaves the Jaguars extremely thin at receiver, particularly after letting Jordan Shipley walk despite being a restricted free agent. I trust GM Dave Caldwell to make the right moves, but I don’t see how this move helps the Jaguars very much. I have to grade this with a “C” at this time. Moves later in fre agency could easily affect that grade.

Laurent Robinson was just waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team isn’t exactly starved at wide receiver, with Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts III coming off decent breakout seasons. Robinson suffered four concussions during 2012 and was placed on injured reserve to end his season. He was making a recovery, passed his physical, and it seemed likely that he would be the third man in a strong receiving corps.

And then he was cut.

Now the Jaguars, who also let restricted free agent receiver Jordan Shipley hit free agency, should be in the market for a new wide receiver. Robinson was supposed to be their number one man in 2012 but faded quickly and was pressing too much, even before he was injured.

If you’re Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser, you think the Jaguars are still set. I disagree.

Just out of the dentist chair and catching up this morning. A lot of angst about the Laurent Robinson move. #Jaguars still very set at WR

There should be plenty of available players who could be that third guy. The Jags are going to be quiet in free agency, but watch some of the receivers projected as slot guys or versatile threats to start to draw some interest from general manager Dave Caldwell.

Wide receiver Laurent Robinson has been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, per Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. Robinson has gone the way of Aaron Ross, another high-priced free agent brought in last offseason to put the Jaguars over the top. As it turns out, the Jags were much further away than just a couple of pieces.

#Jaguars have waived WR Laurent Robinson. Passed his physical so no injury settlement.

— Ryan O’Halloran (@ryanohalloran) March 13, 2013

Robinson signed five-year, $32.5M contract last off-season. … Four concussions derailed year. #jaguars

Robinson’s four concussions were a major concern for the Jaguars during the season. Ultimately, Robinson’s designation to injured reserve resulted in the emergence of second year receiver Cecil Shorts III and Robinson became more expendable. Word out of Jacksonville prior to the release was that Robinson had passed his physical and it seemed he would be back for 2013. The decision to waive Robinson was a surprising move from GM Dave Caldwell.
