It’s been a tough day for the depth players in Jacksonville today. Joining TE Zach Miller, who went on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, DE Austen Lane also goes on IR with a shoulder injury and Rod Issac goes on IR with a hamstring injury.

Zach Miller has been placed on injured reserve today with a shoulder injury, according to Times-Union writer Tania Ganguli’s Twitter feed. How this guy ever finds the time to get injured, I don’t know, because he has had minimal snaps during the regular season and as we all know, the new player/league agreement has made practices a shell of their former self as far as contact and rigor. Seriously, Miller’s body is just a minefield – he goes on IR with a shoulder injury and his knees/calves/feet have plagued him throughout his entire career in Jacksonville – it just doesn’t seem like this guy has what it takes to withstand an NFL season. It’s unfortunate, because it’s easy to see his playmaking ability and the coaches have yearned to get him more involved and Lord knows the Jaguars could use more receivers capable of doing, well, anything.

Miller’s roster spot will be filled by undrafted rookie cornerback, TJ Heath, who was promoted from the Jaguars’ practice squad.

With how much injury history he’s had, I just can’t see the Jaguars bringing Miller back for another season to occupy a spot on the roster/PUP/payroll, when he’s going to spend the entire time medically unavailable. Some guys, despite their undeniable talent, just don’t have the right body to make it in the NFL.
