Do you want the short answer or the long answer? Do you want the easy answer or the hard answer? To be honest, Ochocinco’s cutting doesn’t shock anybody. The Patriots don’t play well with divas (except Bill Belichick who is apparently queen diva in a scary, unemotional sort of way) and they aren’t afraid to show it. Does Ochocinco expect to be signed by anybody else? Will he still be wearing number 85? What if nobody wants him except a team that already has an 85? These aren’t serious questions but, to be honest, Ochocinco is probably thinking them.

From the NFL’s website:

The Jaguars, Bills and Dolphins make sense for Ochocinco on paper, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Once again, the ignorance of the national media strikes me. The Jags signed Lee Evans, Laurent Robinson, and drafted Justin Blackmon. What need does the team have for a washed up wide receiver with more personality issues than a teenage girl?

I wholeheartedly tell the Jaguars to steer clear of the train wreck that is Ochocinco. No team should look at the man and think they need him. Of the three teams listed by NFL.com, the Dolphins make the most sense, though I doubt even they are interested as they will have a hard enough time hosting Hard Knocks, installing a new offense, new coaching staff, and bringing Ryan Tannehill up to be a professional.

And Chad Ochocinco is the exact opposite of a professional.

The Jags were passed up for HBO’s Hard Knocks this year, despite publicly saying they would like to be featured on the show. Instead of going with the Jaguars (the leagues 32nd most popular team), the TV show decided to feature the Miami Dolphins.

I understand where they’re coming from.

The Dolphins, like the Jags, have a new head coach, they have a carousel of potential starting quarterbacks (Ryan Tannehill, David Garrard, or Matt Moore), and they tend to be slightly more….dysfunctional than the Jaguars.

TV is about selling advertising time. Or, in HBO’s case, keeping things interesting enough for people to continue paying for it. Unfortunately, the worst ranked passing offense in the league, a quarterback with early struggles in Blaine Gabbert, a small market, and a commitment to high character players don’t make the Jaguars a very good candidate for Hard Knocks to retain viewers.

Would it have provided some much needed attention to the Jaguars? Absolutely. But unfortunately, what is good for the Jaguars is not good for HBO.

We’ll see if they want to feature the team after the progress that will be made this year.
