Perhaps the biggest hole for the Jacksonville Jaguars right now is at cornerback. There are literally only two people to play the position: Mike Harris and Kevin Rutland. The Jags will likely address corner in both free agency and the draft, with the draft possibly deep enough to yield a starter in the mid rounds. While the team continues negotiations with starter Derek Cox before free agency begins, there are other options they may start to visit in free agency.

Head coach Gus Bradley like his corners to be big and strong, so let’s take a peek at some guys who could fit that mold:

Greg Toler

2012 Team: Arizona Cardinals

Why: I outlined why Toler would be an asset for the Jaguars in this post. He plays at a high level but has been injured a lot during his career. He should come cheap, so he fits the Jaguars’ desire to not be big-time players in free agency for 2013. Toler may get a lot of looks because of the abilities he displays when healthy, but the Jags may be wary because they don’t want to replace Cox – an oft-injured corner – with another player who rarely sees the field.

Bradley Fletcher

2012 Team: St. Louis Rams

Why: Fletcher was the best cornerback in the league in Yards Per Coverage snap in 2012. He is a superb nickel corner who I believe could make the transition to starting corner fairly well. He didn’t see the field very often after a series of penalties which head coach Jeff Fisher does not allow. His physical style of play could be everything the Jags hope for in a cornerback.

E.J. Biggers

2012 Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Why: Biggers, a seventh round pick in 2009, worked his way into the starting lineup and started 12 of 13 games he appeared in in 2012. He isn’t over six feet and he isn’t necessarily the big, strong corner that Bradley may be looking for, but he had 13 defensive stops in 2012 and allowed just three touchdowns thrown against him. He is a growing player that the Jags could put in at nickel or, with some luck, trust on the outside. I like him as a value pickup even though he needs some help finishing tackles.
