Jags New Black Jerseys – Foreshadowing Future?

Watching the Jags today, I frequently had to search for teal a half second until I realized that right in front of me was in fact the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a decent start to a tough game, the Jags floundered and lost 41-3 to the Chicago Bears. But this was the unveiling of the black outfitted team that owner Shahid Khan envisions as the future of the Jaguars. Did the black symbolize a losing culture more than it did a sleek, classy future for the Jaguars?

I personally like the move to have black as a primary color for the Jags. I miss the old mid 2000s alternates. I think the team’s black is so much better than what a lot of teams (looking at you Raiders) do with black. The move to have a black torso with White pants looks a little clashing, but it’s kind of appealing to the eye. When Nike gives the design a revamp for next season it could look really cool.

As good as the team looked (or didn’t look) though, it didn’t translate into a win for the Jags. The entire Khan ownership will be a process, and this first year is looking to have mostly babysteps for the time being. For now I’m going to enjoy the black jerseys as a symbol of the future that could be the Jags. Now let’s hope they start winning so we aren’t always reminded of doom and gloom.
