The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Green Bay Packers in the opening game of a regular season driven by promise and high expectations.

It’s finally here.

Jacksonville Jaguars fans are used to long offseasons, waiting for meaningful games to start again after a disappointing end to the previous season. This year might be different. For the first time since 2008, Jaguar fans have expectations and hope. Unfortunately the first week of the season sees the Green Bay Packers coming to Everbank Field.

While it’s probably unreasonable to expect the Jaguars to beat the Packers, this is the type of game the Jaguars have to show up to and be competitive in order to be considered real playoff contenders. The Jaguars have struggled to against good quarterbacks over the last 3 years and Aaron Rodgers is the best of the bunch. The Jaguars boast a supposedly improved defense and there’s no better test than one of the elite offenses in the NFL.

More from Jacksonville Jaguars News

On the other side of the ball, quarterback

Blake Bortles

is looking to build off a supremely encouraging sophomore season where he set franchise records for touchdown passes and passing yards. He still has plenty of doubters and many want to see him cut down on his turnovers, but Bortles can start to silence them all with a solid performance today.

Besides the two quarterbacks, all eyes will be on the new defensive additions for the Jaguars. Dante Fowler Jr. needs to show a little more than he did in the preseason to quell some of the doubt of his potential impact, while Jalen Ramsey needs to backup some of the talking he’s been doing (I suspect he will).

Here’s the where, when, and how of today’s game:
