Jacksonville Jaguars 2016: What should we expect from the offense?

facebooktwitterreddit

The Jacksonville Jaguars spent plenty of money on the defensive side of the ball this offseason. With less attention on the offensive side of the ball can the returning players match the production from 2015?

In year two of Greg Olson‘s offense here are some of my expectations for the offense.

Quarterback

Expect fewer turnovers.

Blake Bortles broke plenty of team records last season. This year however one area I feel that we should expect him to improve is the reduction of interceptions and fumbles. With another year in Greg Olson’s offense, look for Bortles to be more comfortable, confident and in command.

Running Back

Expect more touchdowns.

T.J Yeldon carried the load most of the time last season but only found the end zone a few times.  With the addition of Chris Ivory, look for the Jags to have more success in the red zone and be more dominant in the run game all together. This is another area of the offense poised to break out this season.

Offensive Line

Expect fewer sacks.

The offensive line has given up 50+ sacks in each of the last two seasons. That has to stop.  With new additions to the line this offseason the Jags hope to solidify what has been area of weakness for the team. Overall if the line can limit the number of sacks this season then the team has a good chance at winning more games.

Wide Receivers

Expect more catches.

Over the last two seasons between the wide receiver corps there was a total of 60 dropped passes. With another year of growth in the same offense watch for that number to drop dramatically. Also keep an eye on Marqise Lee this season. Staying healthy will be a big factor for the young wide receiver to finally find success in the league.

It’s year four of Gus Bradley’s tenure and it feels like the team is finally ready to compete and win consistently. If the Jags can improve in these areas mentioned above then keep an eye out as the season goes on for what will be one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses.  High expectations this season are a good thing.
