Blake Bortles Works to Improve Himself This Offseason

Blake Bortles is committed to getting better. We’ve highlighted this before here at B&T and it’s important to keep noting it as the offseason draws on. Bortles is not acting like a Jamarcus Russell or a Johnny Manziel, he’s committed to becoming the best that he can be at the quarterback position.

This is important for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense and as a team, especially as Bortles becomes the face of the franchise from 2015 forward.

Per the Florida Times-Union, Blake Bortles is working with the best throwing experts available to make sure that he can correct his problems from his rookie season and continue to hone his craft. He is working with 3DQB in Southern California to get better and it sounds like things are going well.

"This offseason, Blake did everything he could to improve his craft. It’s not just about working hard, but smart, making sure everything you do has a purpose. Blake really worked smart this offseason. He now has a process that’s going to work for him to be successful, which is the main goal. His attention to detail, wanting to get better, his expectations of himself, are right there with the best. I know he’s taking that into training camp. The dude got after it. – Adam Dedeaux, instructor at 3DQB"

Bortles struggled in a number of areas during a rookie campaign that we all hope he can put behind him. The first step toward moving on from a rookie season that saw him post 17 interceptions to just 11 touchdowns is to seek out the best advice and mentoring possible. 3DQB was founded by throwing guru and former major league pitcher Tom House.

Getting the right help and working hard toward making himself better should help Bortles improve dramatically in year two. He was the worst quarterback in the NFL last season, so he can only go up from here. While working on his mechanics and making sure his whole body is ready for the 2015 NFL season won’t necessarily help him with his decision making (which was questionable at times in 2014), if he attacks the offseason work with the Jaguars and new offensive coordinator Greg Olson like he has been personally, then we should expect that to improve as well.

Blake Bortles is doing everything right so far this offseason. It will be exciting to see the gains next season.
