Jacksonville Jaguars Have 23rd Ranked Offensive Line According to Pro Football Focus

The perception, at least nationally, is that the Jacksonville Jaguars have arguably the worst offensive line in the league. After giving up 10 sacks to the Washington Redskins, it was hard to argue against that, even though a fair amount of the sacks could have been attributed to then quarterback Chad Henne.

In reality, the Jaguars offensive line has incrementally improved every week, especially since they solidified their starting lineup with Luke Bowanko at center and Austin Pasztor at right tackle.

The improvement has been noted both visually and analytically. In his latest offensive line rankings, Pro Football Focus’ Khaled Elsayed ranked the Jaguars 23rd overall.

"Stud: Rookie guard Brandon Linder has fit in nicely and provides an immediate win for the front office. He’s been a stabilizing force in pass protection up the middle and held his own with his run blocking. The team will be hoping for more, but happy that if this is his ceiling he represents an upgrade on what they had.Dud: Credit to the team because both Jacques McClendon and Cameron Bradfield were ditched from the starting lineup before they could drag this rank even lower.Summary: Rome wasn’t built in a day, but even then it’s encouraging as to the improvements the team made especially after cutting Bradfield and replacing McClendon. They’ll probably be a little disappointed that Luke Joeckel hasn’t imposed himself more given what he cost, and that Zane Beadles hasn’t made a bigger splash in the run game, but this is progress."

The Jaguars’ overall grade is dragged down pretty significantly by both Bradfield and McClendon, who are still ranked as the 10th worst offensive tackle and 3rd worst center respectively despite such a limited workload.

Brandon Linder has been solid, especially for a rookie, and Luke Bowanko has been adequate at worst since being inserted into the starting lineup. With time to gel, this unit should only get better. The weak link right now is free-agent acquisition Zane Beadles, who arguably is the worst player on offense for the Jaguars right now.
