Is It Time to Look Toward the 2015 NFL Draft Already?

Let’s face it, 0-3 isn’t pretty. In fact it’s downright sad. What’s sadder is that the Jacksonville Jaguars simply have not been competitive. The team seemingly faded from the Philadelphia Eagles game as if the bold front they put up in the first half was simply a mirage.

Turns out it was.

But now rookie quarterback Blake Bortles has rejuvenated some life into the offense and the team as a whole. He’s rocketing to the top of everyone’s attention, but will he be able to turn around what is essentially a complete mess?

Not likely.

The offensive line that Bortles is forced to play behind is particularly suspect and make sit improbably that he will be able to put the team on his back and make them competitive in every game. The offensive line is balanced by the worst defense in the league as well.

With that in mind, is it time we started to look toward the 2015 NFL Draft already? The Jacksonville Jaguars are already in the running for the first overall pick and the company around them isn’t so great either.

Personally, I’m not ready to call it quits and look toward April. The Jaguars have some good things going (Bortles) and the defense should be able to rebound to the form they had in the latter half of last season. There’s no reason this defense should be surrendering a baffling 460+ yards per game. The offensive line is understandable and was a weak unit heading into the season.

If you aren’t like me and are already counting down the days until the 2015 draft, keep your eye on the offensive line. The sorely need an upgrade at a minimum of two positions (center and right tackle) and possibly another guard spot as well. Luke Joeckel still hasn’t lived up to expectations at the left tackle spot. This unit will be worthy of a first round pick.

Now, will it be a top three pick. If so, is it back to the trenches for GM Dave Caldwell?

As much as I don’t want to start looking toward April, it’s going to be in the corner of my eye each time I see this offense hike the ball.
