The Jacksonville Jaguars fell to the Atlanta Falcons 24-14 in their final preseason game heading into the 2014 season, but the final score couldn’t be more irrelevant. Their 1-3 record in the preseason couldn’t matter any less. What does matter is Blake Bortles and his outstanding performances in every single appearance this preseason.
Handling the “starting” duties for this game, Blake Bortles was once again very good. Bortles played 3 series and he sure left an impression on his last play of the preseason. Despite some rough offensive line play in his first 2 series, Bortles came out in his 3rd series and punctuated his first exhibition season with an exclamation point.
On 1st-and-10 from his own 43 yard line, Bortles drew the safety to the right side of the field before looking left and launching a gorgeous pass to 2nd round pick Marqise Lee for a 57-yard touchdown pass. Check out the GIF below courtesy of SB Nation.

Bortles left the field after that and handed the reigns over to Stephen Morris. The rest of the game didn’t go too well for the Jaguars. The defensive reserves had a tough time with the Falcons and T.J. Yates, giving up 2 long touchdowns before halftime.
Thankfully, none of that really matters. The big takeaway from this game is that Blake Bortles is pretty darn good, and hopefully we’ll be seeing him sooner rather than later. One of his passes probably could have been intercepted, but it certainly wasn’t any worse than some of the suspect passes Chad Henne has thrown this preseason. My opinion is remaining the same going into week 1 – play Blake Bortles.
