We’re only 2 weeks away from the start of the NFL regular season, which means it’s time for the most relevant preseason game. As is the custom, the Jacksonville Jaguars will play their starters into the 3rd quarter when they face the Detroit Lions on Friday night.
The most significant development over the last week has been the decision to give rookie quarterback Blake Bortles some first team reps against the Lions. While he’s not expected to leapfrog Chad Henne before week 1, this is the catalyst for Bortles to come in and take over the job at some point in 2014.
The Jaguars are also hoping to get some reps for key players returning from injury – wide receiver Cecil Shorts III and linebacker Dekoda Watson.
