General manager David Caldwell made a bold move by selecting quarterback Blake Bortles out of Central Florida with the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he followed it up by selecting 2 highly touted receiving prospects in the 2nd round. One of these prospects – Allen Robinson out of Penn State – signed his rookie deal on Tuesday.
Coming out in a draft considered very deep in receivers, Robinson could have an instant impact on the Jaguars. Standing 6’3″, 220 pounds, Robinson provides the kind of size the Jaguars have never really had on the outside. Extremely productive at Penn State, Robinson should slide in as an immediate starter along with veteran Cecil Shorts III. He and fellow rookie Marqise Lee should help replenish some of the production lost by the indefinite suspension of the oft maligned Justin Blackmon.
