Jacksonville Jaguars Crossing Over With NASCAR?

It is the offseason, so what better to talk about than Daytona International Speedway? As first reported by Mark Long of the associated press, the famed race track would be open to hosting a Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game.

“We’ve not had a formal discussion with the Jags here, but we’ve got some great relationships,” Chitwood said after catching passes and fielding kickoffs with the team. “There’s always an opportunity.”

Owner Shad Khan and the rest of the people running the show have been very open about expanding the fanbase locally and globally, as evidenced by the franchise’s commitment to play a few games in London over the next 3 years.

“If one of the things we have to deal with is the fact that Jacksonville is not the largest NFL market — in fact, it’s one of the smallest —what we have to do is try to expand that region and do a more effective job of marketing in north Florida, central Florida and southern Georgia”

While the Jaguars almost certainly wouldn’t give up another home regular season game, it makes all the sense in the world to try out a new venue for a preseason game. While I can’t speak for all season ticket holders, I would assume most fans would be fine with paying less to miss out on the poor product we see on the field during the preseason.
I would say an event like this is probably years away, but Khan and company have shown a penchant for moving fast when they want something done, so who knows.
