Rookies signing their contracts isn’t nearly as stressful as it used to be thanks to the rookie wage scale implemented in the most recent collective bargaining agreement, but it’s still nice to see the players officially under contract. The Jacksonville Jaguars got one step closer to a complete roster on Monday as 3rd-round pick Brandon Linder signed with the club.
The Jaguars had a glaring need in the interior offensive line, even before the team let go of veterans Will Rackley and Uche Nwaneri. Standing at 6’6″ and 311 pounds, Linder is a massive man who should be able to hold up fairly well at offensive guard. With Zane Beadles signed in free agency to play left guard, Linder is the apparent starter at right guard going forward.
Described as a guy who can “play in a phone booth”, Linder’s strength and size are his best traits. He’s not quite as athletic as some of the other offensive lineman drafted in front of him, but he moves well enough to play in the interior. General manager David Caldwell and his scouts clearly think Linder can start on this team, given how aggressive they were in trading up to select Linder in the 3rd round.
