In the 2nd Round, The Jaguars made a statement. Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley have been blunt when it comes to Justin Blackmon’s status, and by drafting two wide receivers early on, they’ve all but shut the door on the matter. Not just two wide receivers, a stud in Marqise Lee and another solid starter in Allen Robinson.
If and when Blackmon comes back, there’s no guarantee he’ll have a spot on the roster at this point. The Jaguars can’t cut him before he’s given clearance from the NFL to be reinstated. Both Caldwell and Bradley said they’re not counting on him returning, and the fact that he’s not their guy means they have no strings attached.
As the draft continues, we’re starting to see Caldwell’s vision become reality. He didn’t flinch at picking a quarterback 3rd overall, and he didn’t ignore the glaring need for wide receiver depth. Believe me, if Blackmon does all the right things and is able to compete, I’m sure he’ll be given a chance, but it’s looking like that day might come too late for the former 1st round pick.
