With the first round of the 2014 NFL draft only hours away, it’s time to see which direction people think the Jacksonville Jaguars will go with their first round pick. Once thought to be an obvious landing spot for a quarterback, almost no one is predicting the Jaguars will take a QB at number 3 overall. Instead, most have locked on to Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack and Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
Here’s a small sampling of what some of the bigger names are predicting for tonight’s first round:
|Mel Kiper Jr.||ESPN||Khalil Mack|
|Todd McShay||ESPN||Khalil Mack|
|Daniel Jeremiah||NFL Network||Khalil Mack|
|Rob Rang||CBS Sports||Khalil Mack|
|Pete Prisco||CBS Sports||Khalil Mack|
|Don Banks||SI.com||Sammy Watkins|
|Josh Norris||Rotoworld||Sammy Watkins|
|Doug Farrar||SI.com||Jadeveon Clowney|
|Dane Brugler||CBS Sports||Johnny Manziel|
|Hays Carlyon||Florida T-U||Blake Bortles|
Khalil Mack seems to be the safe and easy pick at this point, followed by Sammy Watkins. There has been some buzz about Johnny Manziel possibly landing with the Jaguars, but any rumors that come out the day before or the day of the draft should be taken with a grain of salt.
I wouldn’t be thrilled with Khalil Mack at number 3, but at least it won’t be a surprise. Ultimately, I think general manager David Caldwell will find a way to maneuver within the first round and end up with a quarterback.
