The Jacksonville Jaguars have been a bad team over last few years, and poor play does not lend itself well to primetime games. While every team is guaranteed to have at least 1 primetime game nowadays, teams not considered very relevant are usually relegated to Thursday night on NFL Network.
Apparently the NFL schedule makers think the Jaguars have another year of rebuilding left before they make a move, as they only have one primetime regular season game. Unsurprisingly, they play Thursday night on NFL Network in week 16 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Jaguars were rewarded with 2 home primetime games in 2011 and both games were lacking in excitement. While their week 7 win over the Baltimore Ravens was exciting for Jaguar fans, the 12-7 contest probably wasn’t what ESPN was hoping for. Additionally, their week 13 thrashing at the hands of the San Diego Chargers was barely watchable.
Consequently, the Jaguars only got one primetime game each in 2012 and 2013, both of them Thursday nights on NFL Network. Their 2012 contest against the Indianapolis Colts was a completely one-sided loss, but the Jaguars put up a pretty admirable performance against the Houston Texans in 2013.
The Jaguars have a chance to build on that primetime victory against the Texans when they play the Titans in week 16 this year. There’s no reason the Jaguars shouldn’t have 2 or more primetime games in 2015.
