Jacksonville Jaguars Release LB Russell Allen

The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran linebacker Russell Allen on Thursday afternoon.

Allen made the team in 2009 as an undrafted free agent and managed to shoehorn his way into the starting lineup. Allen played well on special teams and was serviceable at outside linebacker for a few years. His release is likely linked to his recent failed physical.

The timing is a bit odd on this move, but he does save some money on the salary cap this year and the Jaguars probably feel strongly about recently signed free agent linebacker Dekoda Watson.

Allen is a solid player and shouldn’t have much trouble finding a landing spot.

I don’t like this move. Allen is solid. If anything he is a great backup. In the other hand though it makes me think that khalil Mack is coming to town

I don’t think the two are related – you can’t make a roster move like this anticipating a draft pick that might not happen. Allen was solid, but this scheme didn’t suit him very well. I think this move is more about Watson than anything else.
