With free agency looming, the Jacksonville Jaguars have started to make some moves with their own players to position themselves when the market opens up. One of the priorities going into the offseason was upgrading the interior offensive line, and that area became and even bigger need with the news of long time right guard Uche Nwaneri’s release.
Nwaneri has been with the team since being 2007 and he earned a lucrative second contract with his strong play as a run blocker. Unfortunately, Nwaneri was never very effective as a pass blocker, and his recent play has declined enough to warrant his release apparently. Uche was scheduled to have an almost $6 million cap hit in 2014 .
The Jaguars were already in the market for a center and at least one interior lineman, but now they might be stockpiling free agents and draft picks to find three new starting offensive lineman for the 2014 season. With a rookie quarterback likely starting next year, shoring up the offensive line should be near the top of the list.
