Eric Decker, Jeremy Maclin, Ben Tate, Jimmy Graham, Michael Vick, Linval Joseph, Greg Hardy, Jared Allen…sounds somewhat like a fantasy football team does it not? I do not expect David Caldwell to target any of these high-priced free agents. Of course, one of the first thoughts at looking at these names is, “Why not sign some of these guys!? The Jaguars have the cap room!!”

Here are a few problems I have with this. You don’t sign a player like Greg Hardy or Eric Decker to build a roster. You sign one or two, only when your team is a piece away from being a competitor. Signing a free agent like Charles Tillman would do absolutely nothing regarding the progress and the plan for Jacksonville.

Last season, Caldwell was able to find some gems in Sen’Derrick Marks and Roy Miller. I would look for him to do the same this season.

When dealing with a roster such as the Jaguars, free agency is best used as a supplement to fill holes. Maybe sign some younger players who did not quite pan out with their previous teams. Now I do have my eye on some free agents. They aren’t exactly what one would consider “flashy”, but they could come in and compete for a roster spot and maybe continue to develop for the future. Here are a few targets that I believe would make sense for Jacksonville.
