Jacksonville Jaguars Preseason Week 2: Wednesday Practice

facebooktwitterreddit

The Jacksonville Jaguars took the practice field on Wednesday wearing pads and shorts, hoping to make up for two dreadful days on offense. Not much changed on the injury front as the staff continues to be cautious with wide receiver Cecil Shorts III.

The Jaguars continued rotating first team reps between Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert as Henne got the first call with the ones today.

Despite starting with the twos, it sounds like Gabbert ended up with the better day. He made a handful of plays and appears to have improved significantly from the last two days.

It sounds like head coach Gus Bradley will announce the starter on Thursday, but it’ll be difficult to give Henne the nod if Gabbert continues to outplay him in practice.

Undrafted rookie Matt Scott got a lot of work today and it sounds like he flashed some of the potential he has as an athletic quarterback.

Overall the quarterback situation hasn’t changed over past two weeks and it doesn’t sound like Gabbert or Henne is going to separate himself. Still, Gabbert has been slightly better and Henne is essentially expendable if Gabbert gets the starting job. With Matt Scott getting more work, the plan seems to be to start Gabbert and keep Scott on the roster as the backup after cutting Henne. Matt Scott is nowhere near ready to start, but he could get a look at the end of the regular season if Gabbert has the Jaguars around the top of the draft order.
