MJD Floors Security Guard With One Punch

Violence is not to be condoned, but right now I’m marveling over the ability of Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew to floor a security guard with one punch.

Rightly charged with misdemeanor battery, Jones-Drew will be smarting over the action for some time.  The action does not reflect well on the Jaguars, either, as they look to rebuild a roster that was actively deteriorating over the past four seasons.  Jones-Drew is a crucial piece in the rebuild.  His physical running style was the identity of the Jaguars for years and he has shwon that he can beat 8+ men in the box even with a mediocre offensive line.

That physicality should make the one punch KO not very surprising.  But what is is that MJD is still recovering from the Lisfranc tear, is still actively going to rehab for it, and is only 5’7″.  Despite his height disadvantage he still managed to strike the security guard on the left side of the face and knock the man unconscious.  I have never appreciated the power of Jones-Drew more.

In no way should this be construed as supporting his action, but it definitely sent a message through the NFL and Jaguars fans: MJD is back and he’s as physical as ever.

We’ll have to wait and see the consequences of this action.  The gravity of the situation should not be understated.  But, wow.
