CB Demetrius McCray Selected By Jacksonville Jaguars in Round 7

Appalachian State cornerback Demetrius McCray was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round with their second selection via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Another tall corner, McCray is 6’1″ tall, he is probably going to be in the mix and could be competing with fellow seventh round pick Jeremy Harris for playing time either to force Mike Harris out of the starting spot or for the nickel corner spot.

In 2012 McCray had four interceptions, four pass breakups, and 55 tackles.  His 2011 season saw him rack up five interceptions, nine passes defended, and 48 tackles.

McCray had a decent, if unspectacular, NFL Combine but underperformed at the bench press with just four reps.

McCray is a relative unknown, as many seventh round picks are, but was a All-American from the South conference while at Appalachian State.  I’m not going to read too much into this pick and say he’s going to anything more than depth, but he definitely fits the schemes that the Jaguars are trying to build.
