The 2013 preseason schedule was released by the NFL today. The preseason generally serves as a way for teams to continue their evaluations of their rosters, it can help a team that is rebuilding, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, to make the final cuts and set the roster in stone for opening day. The third game is generally considered the more important “dress rehearsal for regular season. New head coach Gus Bradley can’t wait to get on the field and show what he’s building in Jacksonville so I imagine he’s excited to see what his players will give him during the four preseason games.
Here is the Jaguars’ preseason schedule:
Week 1 – August 8-11
- Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 2 – August 15-19
- Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets
Week 3 – August 22-25
- Philadelphia Eagles @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 4 – August 29-30
- Jacksonville Jaguars @ Atlanta Falcons
Personally, I’m really excited for football to come back. The fourth matchup, against the Falcons, seems the most intriguing for me. New Jags GM Dave Caldwell helped build that Falcons roster over the past few seasons. It will be interesting to see how good their roster is, at least depth-wise since it will be mostly second and third stringers on the field, without his eye for talent. Thomas Dimitroff, the Falcons’ GM, is a gifted evaluator so I don’t think Caldwell will be missed too much. There may be some similarities as the Jaguars build into a powerhouse like the Falcons, it will be interesting see if the teams are in anyway similar in the types players they bring in.
