Schrager Mocks DT Sharrif Floyd to Jags, Impressed By New Regime

The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting some positive news for once!  While the 2-14 the team posted during the 2012 season will be tough to look past for a while, the Jags seem to have made the right moves this offseason in hiring GM Dave Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley.  I was surprised when I read some positive words from Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager in his post-combine mock draft.

Before getting to the pick, Schrager had this to say:

Of all the impressions made in Indianapolis this week, I left the most impressed with the new brass in Jacksonville. From Gus Bradley’s contagious enthusiasm to Jedd Fisch’s new offense to David Caldwell to the analytics team that’s been brought on to look at the numbers — Jacksonville seems headed in the right direction.

For the least popular team in the league, it’s good to get noticed and have that attention be positive.

Schrager then mocked Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd to the Jaguars.  Floyd has been flying up draft boards lately and I think he would be a good fit with the Jags.  I’m torn between him, Star Lotulelei (assuming his heart issue gets cleared up), and an athletic pass rusher like Barkevious Mingo at this point in the pre-draft season.  Schrager thinks that he can be an anchor along an unproductive defensive line.  I agree.

I doubt that any players are flying up or down boards at this point of the process. They gave identified their pick at #2, and the only question is if they can move back and still get the guy. It almost certainly isn’t Floyd. He is an average player at a low priority position.

Fair enough analysis. Who would you prefer at the spot?

Dt is the hardest position to transition in the game. the trenches are the most important part as well.
