Jacksonville Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell thinks the Jags can be competitive quickly. If the team can get a good draft class going then they may just be competitive a lot earlier than anticipated.
Per Jaguars.com, Caldwell believes that the team can be in a position to strike when the iron is hot this year. The plans that he has been developing since before hiring Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley seem to be coming together. “We have work to do, but if we get a good draft class in here, we feel like we can be competitive quickly,” said Caldwell.
That’s good news for Jaguars fans. It doesn’t mean that the team will be 12-4 after a 2-14 season, but the Jags were hardly even competitive during the 2012 campaign, so it would be nice to see the team get competitive in more than just a couple games.
With the right preparation, the Jags should be able to go in the right direction.
That isn’t to say that other teams don’t have the right preparation or that plans are not a part of other teams’ approaches to the NFL. Outside of maybe Al Davis, all teams have operated with some sort of plan in place.
Let’s just hope that the Jags are able to step it up and progress beyond just being competitive.
