Todd McShay Mock Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Pick Werner

ESPN’s Todd McShay has come out with his 2013 NFL Mock Draft 2.0 and the Jacksonville Jaguars are rewarded with a premium pass rusher, even with West Virginia’s QB Geno Smith still on the board.

Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State is second off the board following Kansas City’s selection of Star Lotulelei at number one.  According to McShay,

Werner is a good overall player who is also strong against the run and would fit well opposite DE Jason Babin, but is he worth this pick? Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore is a better athlete but could slip a bit due to growing concerns about maturity.

The maturity is a big thing as the Jaguars are in the midst of a big rebuilding effort.  While Moore would be a big pickup for GM Dave Caldwell in his first year – especially since he has no intention of making a big splash in free agency – Werner may be the safer pick.  I like the selection, but I’ve been a fan of Werner since draft season started.
