While looking through the posts on Jaguars.com, I noticed a small blurb on new Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator, Jedd Fisch. Fisch came from relative anonymity to the Jags without much more to his name than the statistics of the Miami Hurricanes over the past two seasons. Fisch was a relatively fast hiring for head coach Gus Bradley as he revamps his coaching staff and now we have some more light shed on the hiring.
He’s really innovative. I knew about his philosophy. I knew how his personality was in good times and bad. So I felt really good about that. But when he went to college and had to expand, he now has three or four different tempos he can attack you with. He can do it with different personnel groupings. He can do it with different tempos. Those are all things that I know as a defensive coordinator are tough to deal with. That’s what I liked about Jedd, that it’s an attacking mode of offense and it can come at you in different ways.
For a coach who is looking at the cohesiveness of his coaching staff in bringing in talent, understanding how Fisch will act during the highs and lows of rebuilding a franchise may be his best characteristic. I wasn’t too sure about the hire back when it was announced, but the more I learn the more I understand and can appreciate the thought process behind it.
