Cecil Shorts III Falls Just Short of 1,000 Yards

Cecil Shorts III was placed on injured reserve on Christmas Eve this year.  It was a Christmas gift that his play did not justify, but, unfortunately, concussions don’t care how close you are to 1,000 yards in your breakout season.  Shorts was well on his way to 1,000 yards receiving for the Jaguars when he suffered his first concussion of the season and was forced to miss week 15 due to lingering symptoms.  He will miss week 17 due to a concussion as well.

Shorts was short a mere 21 yards.

As a Jags fan, watching Shorts pursue the illustrious 1,000 yards was a bright spot on a very dark season.

For at least this year, Jimmy Smith’s 2005 season will remain as the last 1,000 yard season for a Jaguar receiver.  Shorts will remain with 979 yards.
