Cecil Shorts III entered the game against the New England Patriots needing just 75 yards to become the first 1,000 yard receiver the Jacksonville Jaguars have had since Jimmy Smith in 2005. After a 54 yard performance he is still short 21 yards. In a close game that resulted in a 23-16 loss for the Jags the Jaguar fanbase waited for Shorts to gain the magical 75 that would put him at 1,000 yards.
We’re still waiting.
In a long march toward 1,000 yards we have seen Shorts get shut out against Houston, utterly dominate against Green Bay, and sit a game out with a concussion. His improved play has been the primary highlight of the Jags’ horrendous season. With one game left, all he needs is 21 yards. He has had over 21+ yards in every game except weeks two and four. He has averaged over 21 yards per reception in four games this season.
Shorts left Sunday’s game with an injury.
If he can do anything close to his normal production next week then there will be something to smile about at the end of next week’s game no matter what the score is.
