Shorts Watch 2012 may be the best thing to happen to the Jaguars since…well the 2010 AFC South Championship between the Jags and the Colts. As Cecil Shorts III continues his march toward 1,000 yards, he quietly let Justin Blackmon grab the headlines. Blackmon’s monster 236 yard day overshadowed a lot of what the Jaguars did right on Sunday against the Texans.
Part of what the Jaguars did right was to continue putting the ball in Shorts’ hands.
Shorts, a man on path to be the Jaguars’ first 1,000 yard receiver since Jimmy Smith, had 81 yards on three receptions Sunday. This surpassed his 62 yards per game average and helped put him ever closer to the elusive 1,000 mark. At this point Shorts has 642 yards on the season. If he keeps his current 64.2 yards per game average, he will finish a mere 27 yards above 1,000. If he continues to grow or has a monster of a day like Blackmon, then this thing will be blown well off the hinges.
