Fred Taylor will be inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars today and there isn’t anybody more deserving. An offensive powerhouse and a graceful runner, Taylor is widely recognized as one of the best backs to play in the last two decades. He has numerous franchise records and numbers that could compete to be enshrined in Canton at some point. He had a stigma for being injured associated with him, but “Fragile Fred” actually wasn’t so fragile and he showed it week after week. Watching Taylor was one of the reasons I became a Jaguars fan and one of the reasons why the Jaguars found some success with him in the backfield.
Here are some statistical notes on the man:
- 13 Seasons
- 2,534 attempts
- 11,695 yards (4.6 yards per attempt)
- 7 1,000+ yard seasons
- 66 Rushing TDs (74 total)
- 27 fumbles in 153 games (Only one in every 5.5 games)
The man is everything that you want in a feature back. The Jaguars have been graced with some great runners and Taylor leads the list (currently). He has been a great mentor for Maurice Jones-Drew, he showed that ball control offense can work, and he made the Jags a threat every time he stepped on the field. If there is anyone who deserve the Pride, it’s Freddy T. He embodies what it means to be a Jaguar, even after hanging up the cleats.
