Jennings Showing Something Special

The Jaguars annual scrimmage last night was a time for Rashad Jennings to show off just how good he has gotten after a year off in 2011.  Jennings had quarterback Blaine Gabbert gushing after the end of the scrimmage about his superb play.  According to Gabbert, “We started clicking. We got in a rhythm right there, hit some big runs. Rashad and the O-Line did a great job again, especially on the check downs when they were dropping in coverage.”

While the second year quarterback may be a bit easier to impress than other veterans on the team, the coaches and fans all took notice too.  There probably won’t be the drop-off that soem have anticipated with the Maurice Jones-Drew holdout in full effect.  And that may just be the final nail in the coffin for Pocket Hercules in his contract dispute.

Runs of 14 and 16 yards combined with his 37 yards receiving make him an explosive threat, even against a strong defense.  It also shows his ability to get open, read the holes the right way, and that he knows how to make his cuts.  A lot is said about MJD’s ability to explode through holes from behind blockers who block the line of sight for defending players – if Jennings keeps pushing through like a juggernaut the defense will know fear when they see his 6′ frame.

Jennings has the skills to be the complement the Jaguars need for their passing game.  MJD is a great player and should get back ASAP to participate in team training, but if isn’t there for the first game or a couple weeks I will rest easy knowing Jennings will be pounding the rock.
