The Jags and punter Bryan Anger have finally agreed to terms just before training camp. While the team is still working out a deal with Justin Blackmon, at least the team will guarantee they have their highly coveted punter signed. After all, punters are people too.
, widely accepted as the true secret weapon for the Jaguars in 2012, will showcase his punting abilities throughout training camp. With hangtime hovering around six seconds per punt, the team’s special teams will have considerably more time to set up and limit the return game on fourth down. This should help in the position battle since the team has not fielded a strong offense for years and must rely on a very stout defense to limit the number of points the opponent can score.
As almost everyone the league over has commented on the drafting of Mr. Anger in the third round (earliest punter selected since 1995), we’ll leave his body of work to speak for himself this season. If he does anything like the 38 games with at least one punt of 50+ yards during his tenure at California, I think we’ll be pretty pleased.
