Colts to Take Luck (Suprise!) at Number One

The Colts announced today that they would be taking Stanford QB Andrew Luck at #1 during this year’s draft.  Like you I was shocked.  underwhelmed.

The anticlimactic news was broken by the Colts who said that they had decided upon this a lont time ago.  Once again, I was blown away by this bombshell.

What this does mean though is that the Colts have confirmed that the next Peyton Manning will be in Indianapolis for a decade or more.  Andrew Luck vs the Jaguars will be a theme at least twice a year, a constant battle against a skilled passer.

But what if he’s a bust?  No, seriously.

Luck does the right things.  He says the right things.  Luck even looks the part, taking over for a man whose ordinary face connected with the fans and showed what hard work can do for you in this world.  But that doesn’t guarantee he’s going to be the quarterback we all expect him to be.  Luck is never going to be a bust like Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf, but sometimes players just don’t pan out no matter how good they appear.  No matter how hard they try.

I raise the question only because it doesn’t appear to be being asked by many people.  It’s usually just a comparison between Luck and Robert Griffin III, but seriously, what if it doesn’t work out?
