I agree that the Jags need an offensive mind as their head coach. However, I find Dirk Koetter to be less competent than other options. Since becoming the Jags offensive coordinator, the offense has always struggled to fulfill his schemes. He wants to stretch the field and make the offense more vertical. While both ambitions are good and can be suitable for an offense, it does not gel with the personnel the Jags have = A green quarterback, a very strong running back corps, a group of O-linemen that tend to pave the road more than create a pocket, and a group of receivers that make elongating the field and promoting more vertical options appear to be a fantasy that nobody needs to take seriously. I can't see a Gene Smith and Dirk Koetter marriage working well.

I think we'll be looking at a college coach running a pro-style offense currently. Someone with a history of working well with quarterbacks and has a very balanced offensive philosophy while still creating mismatches with Jaguar-like personnel.

I would promote Dirk Koetter, because the Jags need a youthful coach who also adds continuity. And Koetter is ready for a head coaching gig anyway, so it makes a lot of sense to promote one of the league's brightest OCs. And oh yeah, getting a better quarterback wouldn't hurt either; Blaine Gabbert is awful, they need to bring in an adequate veteran. I mean, Gabbert just looks clueless out there.
