Jaguars Release Punter Matt Turk for Sucking, Pissing Off Everyone

Turk will definitely have more free time to spend with his family.

The most hated man in Jacksonville has been sent packing, never to return. Matt Turk was released today and replaced by punter Nick Harris, who most recently spent eight seasons with the Detroit Lions. Turk has likely played his last down of NFL football, after a truly disastrous preseason and five games with the Jaguars, where he committed every cardinal sin a punter can commit including: shanks, booming it into the endzone, failing to make tackles, wearing stupid looking shoulder pads and a tight jersey, having a fake tan, and being an asshole to the hometown fans. It was a panicked and impulsive signing by the Jaguars after Adam Podlesh left hastily for the Chicago Bears when they offered him more money and stroked his tiny ego by making him feel “wanted”. Harris has had an interesting career up to this point……being signed by the Denver Broncos in the 4th round of the 2001 draft and being cut before the start of the regular season. He was then picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was cut during the middle of this third season, seemingly for having lower numbers than his previous years. He then found a home in Detroit, where he had an increased role and was quite busy for the inept Lions’ offenses of the mid-to-late 2000′s. Known for his powerful leg, Harris put up some nice averages in Detroit, owning the most punts and punting yards and 3rd all-time for gross punt average. Now that they have an explosive offense, apparently punter is a luxury Shack Harris feels the Lions can live without and allowed Harris to hit the open market following last season.

Fortunately, Harris is likely not receiving any kind of guarenteed contract, seeing as he was unemployed a month into the season and hasn’t had many other suitors. So once Russ Purnell asks him to NOT do what he does best (booming long/high punts) and instead demands that he kick directionally and use techniques employed in rugby/Aussie-rules football/semi-pro kickball leagues, we can cheaply part ways and pick up the next bargain-basement punter.
