The efficient, mistake-free version of Luke McCown did not catch the flight to New York and rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert saw his first regular-season action as the Jaguars were absolutely pummeled by an attacking Jets team that very much looked the part of an AFC powerhouse. It was an ugly sight to behold and one that is sure to send shockwaves through the Jacksonville fanbase. Put simply, Luke McCown made some very bad throws and was unable to move the offense. The Jaguars defense did what they could to capitalize on Mark Sanchez mistakes and keep the Jets from running away with the game early, but as the afternoon wore on, no hope was found and the game slipped further into hopelessness.
The question on everyone’s mind will be Blaine Gabbert – was this just a way to get him some reps against a top-notch defense or is this the beginning of the Blaine Gabbert era in Jacksonville? There is a lot to reevaluate this week and I think that right now, the coaches don’t know who the week 3 starter will be against Cam Newton and Carolina. The deep analysis begins tomorrow in your weekly edition of “BOOK IT: 5 Things I Think about the Jaguars”.
