PAUL POSLUSZNY A JAGUAR!!!

Hello. My name is Paul. And I'm a linebacker.....as if that wasn't obvious.

Tania Ganuli, Jay Glazer, and Jason LaFrancora are all reporting that Paul Posluszny has agreed to a six-year deal with the Jaguars. He is not officially signed, but will be permitted to do so this Friday. The Bills supposedly did what they could to keep him, but the Poz wanted no part of the revamping Bills defense, which is switching from 4-3 to the 3-4. He will be the middle linebacker in the Jaguars defense, presumably for the rest of his career or at least the vast majority of it. If he can stay healthy, he will be a dependable and formidable force for the Jaguars and will likely become a defensive captain sooner than later. Great news.

that is music to my ears!!!

Our defense will be good in Madden, and good in real life, lets take a look.

    Lane Alualu Knighton Kampman Cox

    Smith Posluszny Lawson/Session/Black/etc.

    Mathis

    Greene

    Landry

That’s a very good defense. 3 good d-lineman, decent LE. Great set of LBs, Good and decent safety, and solid corners. Run D will be top 10, and Pass D about 12th.

    That got screwed up.

This is excellent news! Now I would like to see either Weddle or Landry get on board. Although I am leaning more towards Landry than Weddle, but either of them would be welcomed additions. With what Gene is doing, it is going to be easier and easier for him to bring in some good free agents in these coming years.

Keenan, I agree – I feel that with every good draft pick and FA signing Gene pulls off, he’s more likely to get Wayne Weaver’s faith (and $ budgeted for signings). I’ll admit I’m a little gunshy about going for big names in FA to fill our holes, as we did in the disaster of 2008, but I’m confident in Gene.

I also have a feeling we don’t sign Weddle – he’s going to want (and has earned) a lot of guaranteed money that I don’t see us giving him. I think you’ll see a lesser known player who will be solid yet unspectacular or possibly an old guy who Gene thinks has 1-2 years of tread on the tires until we draft his replacement (or someone like Prosinski proves himself capable of being a good starter).

jags are one of 4 SERIOUS contenders

just because i’m on the other site, doesn’t mean I’m not addicted :)

They aren’t going to dismiss him, just because they think he’ll be too expensive. They’re doing their due diligence, but I gotta believe we end up being one of the low bids there. With the way free safety has been approached thus far under Gene – Reggie Nelson (traded for David Jones), Anthony Smith (traded for a pick that never came to fruition), Gerald Alexander (released), and Don Carey (converted from CB) – it just doesn’t seem like we care that much about the position to reach for a draftpick or overpay a free agent. I think this is a position where Gene believes value is the name of the game. We’ll see…

@thehof I’m inclined to agree with you, but after the play of Carey last year, it is safe to assume that Gene has added a fair amount of importance to the position. It was so bad that it made the whole secondary look bad and it had a really negative effect on the run defense. It was never more apparent in the games against the Raiders and the Colts, when the division was on the line. McFadden made us look bad and Donald Brown shouldn’t have had a 100 yard game. Not only that, but a quality free safety would really help Cox come along. Even if it isn’t Weddle, it would be in the best interest to bring in someone proven.

@KeenanJ Agreed that it definitely needs to be addressed and Gene has realized his previous way – Don Carey/”Bargain Basement” FA’s – will not suffice. I think you see someone signed for 2-3 years with a price tag/skill level somewhere between a Considine and a Weddle.
