I definitely think Del Rio is a solid coach. And I thoroughly agree with your analysis of just needing a very solid quarterback. I'm rather disappointed he let go of defensive play calling responsibilities, but I hope it works in the Jags' favor. I think that Del Rio needs some inspiration (kind of how Coughlin did when he ran aground here before hitting New York). I think Del Rio can get Jacksonville a Super Bowl and I'd prefer him getting it for us over someone else at this point. But the numbers can't be denied.

As far as Del Rio - I think you give him a great QB and he's a helluva coach. I believe he gets more out of his defensive players than most coaches could and I think his aggressive style is effective in the modern league. I'm not saying he needs a Brady/Manning/Rodgers to be successful, because let's face it, I could be a HOF coach with one of those guys on my squad for 10 years, but if Gabbert turns out to be a Matt Ryan/Joe Flacco/Matt Shaub type of player, then I think Del Rio will be one of the league's highest-regarded coaches 5 years from now.

Luke - this is a fantastic article. It's an important topic to explore and the lead-in had me very excited to see what the body of evidence concluded. I think you're dead-on with our receivers - should we expect Hill to be the next Jimmy Smith? No. But is there enough evidence to expect him to put up a decent amount of production? Definitely.

Garrard had 2700 yards passing last year and only 2500 in that magical '07 season. Would anyone be unsatisfied with a 3500 yard season from him? If Lewis, Hill, and Thomas all manage 700 yards (certainly reasonable) and Dillard, MJD, and Zach Miller manage 300 (again, reasonable) and Jennings, Cecil Shorts, and the 4th receiver (Underwood/Hughes/Osgood) all gain 150, then that's a 3450 yard season for Garrard in 2011. Those estimates are probably more conservative than most Jags fans would offer. I think a career season for DG may be closer than we think.
