According to the Iowa Hawkeyes official website, Stanzi was pretty good at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, Ohio.

Accolades:

  • 2005 Ohio Division III Offensive Player of the Year
  • first team all-state, all-district, all-county and all-conference as a senior
  •  MVP of Ohio North vs. South all-star game
  • three-year letterman in football, four-year letterman in basketball (there is a pattern of multi-sport guys on these QB studies)
  • threw for 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns, along with rushing for 630 yards and six touchdowns as a junior
  • threw for 2,400 yards and 21 touchdowns, and rushed for 675 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior
  • had a 62% completion percentage
  • team captain

The sites also notes that he was redshirted his freshman season at Iowa.
