Washington QB Jake Locker, The Draft Study

The 2011 NFL Draft is 8 days away and Jake Locker has been examined more than a lab rat. Before the 2010 season, it was a widely known fact that Locker would be the first overall pick in 2011. It was also a widely known fact that locker would’ve been drafted ahead of Sam Bradford (2010 first overall pick, St Louis Rams) had he come out after his junior season. Locker stayed, and now he’s looked at as anywhere from top-10 to the middle of the second round.

His big positives:

  • rocket arm
  • throwing on the run
  • scrambling ability
  • Pro-style offense experience

His two big negatives:

  • inaccuracy
  • too much running, leading to a body that’s too exhausted at the end of the game and higher risk of injury (Gruden’s comment)

These are some pretty big positives and negatives. Let’s poke and prode.

He looks to have great arm strength. 4:43 of the SR highlight real. He bootlegs to his non-throwing arm and is able to his his receiver in stride with no problem. Highlight reels aren’t gonna show his poor accuracy.

      Man
I didn’t even think to look for lowlights. I guess I was too hurried to catch up.
I’m on my phone but if you happen to find any please post them

My bad, I didn’t mean to imply your report was lacking. I just meant to say highlight reels are a bit misleading. I found this online though.

Locker vs. Nebraska — his first throw looks to be a bad INT.

          i didn’t take it negatively

i just thought it would’ve been good in there

OK, not as much Locker as I’d like in that video. Mainly a highlight reel of the game. But I did come away with a few things. Locker needs to improve his decision making. At one point he scrambled out of the pocket only to slip and fall and would have taken a sack had it been the NFL, he should have just thrown it away. The INT in the beginning was bad. He threw another INT later in the video, where the CB jumped either an inside post or curl route.
