The football God is in a smiling mood as far as the Jacksonville Jaguars. All of that praying Wayne Weaver did is paying off. The Jaguars pulled off another surprise victory.
You could see it happening, a four game losing streak was on the way. David looked bad in the first half and the Raiders were mowing them down. But something changed. Something said “Oh No, we are not going down that road again” and the Jaguars came back strong. This was a must win for the Raiders to have a chance to win the AFC West. It wasn’t a must win for the Jaguars. Beating Indy next week is a must win. This game against the Raiders was an attitude check. It was time for the Jaguars to decide if they wanted to win next week or not. They do want to win and to quote Mr. T, I pity the poor fools who take the field against them.
But something strange is happening in the NFL. There is a new strategy pioneered by Brainiac Bill Belichick that says you don’t need to have a defense to win. It doesn’t matter that you give up 375 yards a game, you can still win. The Jaguars are giving up 371 yards a game and they are at the top of the division. Don Carey stiffed arm off his feet? No problem. Derek Cox beat for a touchdown? Forget about it. It isn’t important. The Lions have a better overall defense than the Indianapolis Colts and we play the Colts for the top spot next week. Oakland has a better defense than Kansas City. Kansas City just needs Matt Cassell back.
All that worrying about Reggie Nelson and John Henderson being gone? It didn’t matter. The only thing that matters is Vince Manuwai and the offensive line open holes for Maurice and David plays well.
Worried that Peyton Manning will put up 500 yards against us? Who cares? Oakland just put up 476 yards and we still won. Defense? We don’t need no stinkin defense.
The football God healed Vince Manuwai and Maurice and granted David a decent strong arm, at least for this year. We are good to go to the playoffs.
