Maurice got 5 more yards off the Eben block.

What I am liking about Eben Britton

Here is another picture show on something I saw Eben Britton do against the Colts. There were a number of plays I could highlight but I liked this one because in the same play against Miami last year, he whiffed his block. This year, he doesn’t whiff as you will see. Click on any picture to bring it up in clear large detail.

It is a run to the right with Eben leading

That is Robert Mathis in pursuit

Greg Jones is on the ground but Eben gets into great position

Eben blasts Kelvin Hayden to clear the corner

Kelvin is blown back to disrupt Mathis

Maurice now has an opening to hit

One man to beat now

Eben is finding his man better and getting in better position to hold and sustain a block. He did very well with the Colts Robert Mathis. For the four games thus far, he is credited with 1 QB sack, 4 QB hits and 3 QB pressures. This is ranking him in Joe Thomas company. If Eben keeps this up, he will be Gene Smith’s best draft choice of the last two years.

Eben Britton has made me eat my words. Sorry I doubted you Eben.

This is awsome news, but I wonder if Eben is better suited as a guard. Something tells me that is going to be his future position. What I think is going to happen is Gene is going to find another young tackle through free agency or the draft that he thinks is a better tackle than Britton is. Once that happens, Britton will become a right guard and Uche will become the center. Justin Smiley will then be the left guard until a younger, ascending one is found, effectively giving the Jaguars one of the younger, improving offensive lines in the league.

I think Eben as a guard has a lot of appeal. Maybe not to him, but with a new fantastic right tackle, Eben would be killer as a right guard.

      You have a great point!
