Pure Disappointment

I was excited about this game.  The Jaguars were coming off a big win and very good offensive performance, and to follow it they gave us this.  It was 38-6 until the final moments when we scored a garbage touchdown to make it a more respectable mark of 38-13.  But even then, it’s still a blowout.  Going into this game I figured we had a shot.  But I underestimated how badly the Chargers wanted to get their first win of the season.

I did not anticipate David Garrard getting picked off four times.  The number is staggering!  He went from the second top rated player in the league to one of the worst in one game.  It was a mistake that only Brett Favre could make and get away with.  And David Garrard is not a gunslinger like Favre.  in 22 attempts he had four picks.  That one pick for every 5.5 passes.  Horrendous.  No wonder Luke McCown came in.  It reminds me of the play of Jay Cutler last year.  It was bad enough to make me cringe every time I realized it was a pass play.  And I like David.  Sad day.

But the worst part, minus David’s four turnovers, was Maurice Jones-Drew.  31 yards off 12 attempts for a 2.6 yard average and one fumble.  No touchdowns.  Only one catch for 17 yards.  I know that the line wasn’t doing so well, but as one of the best backs in the league you’ve got to be able to make something out of nothing.  Instead we ended up with a performance that left us not only bored but disappointed.  Today wasn’t our day.  Hopefully this is a fluke more than anything else.
